Today was one of those days when things started to fold together like a zipper. Rare for a Monday but I will take it. Today was also a day when I wished I had a Tumblr because I had all of these things to blurt out and try not to clutter your Readers with little bits of nonsense. No, I prefer my nonsense large and overwhelming.
This morning was a flurry. One of our my main clients is a huge company that owns a lot of other brands. Several of those brands are clients of ours. They all "woke up" this week and we are now looking at a whole world of busy INCLUDING an onboarding trip to New York in two weeks!!!!
I am thrilled about this for several excellent reasons. But most selfishly because I have not been an adult woman in New York before. My boyfriend in college was a Jersey boy so we would daytrip in for a show and dinner at Carmine's but I was not allowed to shop. And his family apparently considered the "you go do whatever you want to do and I'll meet you in an hour" tactic to be total abandonment and grounds for an apocalyptic fight. Anyway, I haven't been to New York since I was 20. You got it- almost exactly five years ago.
So now I'm going on a work trip there to be on-boarded by a fantastic client and their skintastic contribution to Sephora's bottom line. I was only supposed to be there Tuesday through Thursday morning but have been allowed to take Friday off and will now stay through the weekend. I've never been to Brooklyn. I've never been to SoHo or Tribeca or the Meat-Packing District. I've never wandered New York City on a weekday by myself. I am shaking I am so excited.
Logically, shaking excitement only makes me think of one person these days so I text him. "Crazy idea, when do you have to be back on the West Coast?" I'm thinking, if he has to go back before then, I'll stay in NYC and have a girls weekend. If it's his last weekend in Chi, I'll go back and have NYC girlfriend time during the week. But if he's up for it...
He comes back with..."Whenever. The next place I need to be is New York in 3 weeks. What's up?"
I kid you not. He has to be there on the following Monday. He's flying in a couple days early, I'm flying out a couple days late and in between I get to explore one of the world's most interesting cities with my preferred partner in crime.
In the meantime, he arrives in Chicago in two days. So far the plans include Ingrid and Greg at the Park West, Battlestar Galactica, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie and James Taylor at Ravinia (outdoor park up north) with Caro & Co. So the best of Chicago, then the best of New York...L Sass and I are kind've in trade mode!
Happy Happy Cook :)
For those in the know...what MUST I see on my apple adventure?! You know what I love... a great bite to eat, a fabulous little shop and a fantastic story to tell later... think New York can give me all three?

Whoa whoa whoa. Hold the phone. You're coming here?! We need to figure something out, even though we're both half of pairs this weekend. SO FUN!!!
I have never been to New York, sadly. :(
One day I will - until then you'll have to post pictures. Deal?
I just got back from NYC. I kid you not. My best advice? Walk the streets. Make as few plans as possible. Submerge into that culture. It's always alive. You.Will.Love.It.
You will definitely find all three of those in NY. I love that city! Come back with some good New York posts, please!
Oh my gosh I am so jealous. Miss Roommate and myself are planning a long NYC weekend in like, September?
So you pretty much have to tell me everything you do, so I am not wandering around like a retard.
This is fate. Wow!
Let me know if you want romantic, dark bar recommendations. (NYC is nice when viewed from a weekend in bed, as well, though...)
yayyy for awesome coincidences!! Especially when they occur in NYC :)
No way - when is this????
so jealous, hope you have a GREAT time! say hi to "lovepuppy" for me! :)
I <3 NYC! I have only been there once but did exactly as Nilsa suggests. We planned one thing we wanted to do/see each day, and the rest was just random walking. Rest asured...you can stop into just about ANY restaurant and the food is five star quality. Make sure to try a slice of pizza too! It's DELICIOUS! :) Enjoy your trip!!
