And You Can't Make Me

Spring Fever. No one seems to catch it in quite the same way.

At my house, rather than being moved to scrub the surfaces clean and start fresh with the season, my apartment looks like I paid someone to ransack it. Ransack it and use every dish in the process. And I can't be moved to put a dent in it. I actually avoided having friends over for tea in my living room due to the disaster area and it was saying that out loud that finally alerted me to needing a new approach.

New approach: A little more avoidance but with good purpose- bargain hunting for inspiration.

Two hours later I returned home having spent $65 on TWO pairs of shoes (black flat sandals not pictured) and $30 on a king's bounty from Stanley's. It was a reasonably frugal weekend already thanks to trending "at-home entertaining" and spending the budget surplus on hot red peep-toe platforms (60% off at Una's, natch) was just what the doctor ordered.

Prescription for TKTC Spring Fever:
  • Put on red shoes with skinny jeans
  • Turn speakers up with Oldies playlist (Come On to My House, Kokomo, Leader of the Pack, etc)
  • Apply same red lipstick worn for previous evening
  • Fill fridge with items worth cooking to force dish washing (least.favorite.pasttime)
I've now been bopping around my kitchen for an hour and things are headed in the right direction. At this rate I think dinner will remain an avocado (lemon juice, S&P) and some Triscuits but this week is going to see some serious loving in the cook's corner. Nothing about this post was cohesive or clever and for that I apologize. It's the fever. I think maybe I need some more lipstick.

Also, upon spellchecking, anyone know the origin for the word "Triscuit"? Pretty sure I have avenues to figure this out but the way it's spelled makes me think it's a town in Western Massachusetts.

Mmm yeah them red babies are hot ... so hot that I bought a pair simultaneously :) J & I enjoyed avocado, lemon, s&p as well last night. and then made linguine with white wine/cream sauce and WAY too much sauteed squash, mushrooms, and zucchini. does TKTC have any pointers on PORTIONS and TIMING? have poinpointed them as my cooking downfalls ... a plus, cherie

LOVE the shoes. I must talk to you about going shoe shopping with me sometime so I can get your creative POV on any purchases. Or I need to move to your neighborhood.

Want. Those. Shoes.

Scoop: Definitely check out Una's! And Eskell and Store B Vintage as well (all on Milwaukee)!

McG: O hai dinner...that sounds AMAZING! Timing is usually a clusterduck for me as well. Although I will say that sauteeing veggies tends to take about the same amount of time as cooking pasta. As for portions, move in next door and I'll eat some of the leftovers:)

BayJB: All of the above I think. I think you are MUCH better at purchasing accessories than I am (I have two handbags, count em) but when there are deals to be had and I can't wear my orange rainboots every day... meh:)

AnyLittleReason: I think you should add them to the baby registry. One for me, one for you, shoes for me, diapers for you. Sounds fair to me.

Those are some ADORABLE shoes! I just got a pedi on Saturday and can't wait to go shoe shopping very soon.

As far as the disaster...I just moved into David's place so we are trying to move my stuff in medium sized amounts so we can figure out where to put all my stuff--or what needs to go into storage. Our place looks great but my old apartment, total tornado alley.

I love those shoes! I am so sad that I took a shopping hiatus. Otherwise those would be mine.

Holy hot shoes.
And because I am completely lame: Triscuit's original packaging claimed that it was "baked by electricity". So it's short for ELECTRIC BISCUIT. Which would be such a great name for a rock band.

Okay, I'll make you a deal: I'll move there and wash your dishes and you can cook for me. I hate cooking, don't mind washing dishes.

And I seriously love those shoes.

Sue: Moving in?! Good for you guys! My what a difference a year makes:)

Heather: I'm on a semi-permanent shopping hiatus but need a bumper sticker that says "I break for hot red wedges." Plus I get green with all the pretty things YOUR always putting up.

Kat: If you want to give Electric Biscuit a run, I will try to learn the cello again and invest in pleather pants for both of us. It's rough out there and with fan bases in two major cities, I see this as a legitimate Plan B.

CH: You have a deal. We will eat in and clean up and use all the money we save on restaurants to buy shoes. I genuinely think that's what our lives would look like. And 6 weeks a year we can tour with Electric Biscuit.

You know, I can't remember the last time I bought new shoes.

SAD DAY.

Love shoes, hate cleaning, retreat into cooking denial. We are kindred spirits my friend.

LOVE those! I bought a pair just like them at a vintage store in LA years ago. Every girl needs sassy red pumps.
